Preview
The Croatian national team had strong rivals in the group stage – in the company of Belgium, Canada and Morocco, the team was the second.
They managed to get only one victory in the group stage, in the second round there was a victory (4-1) for Canada. With Belgium and Morocco, the national team played a draw (0-0), thus finishing second in the group behind Morocco.
In the 1/8 finals, Croatia was rivaled by Japan, in the confrontation with which it was difficult to win back in the second half and transferred the match to extra time, and then to the penalty shootout, where it turned out to be stronger.
Croatia also defeated Brazil on penalties, again managing to answer the opponent with a goal, but this time in extra time.
In the semi-final with Argentina, the struggle, as such, did not work out – already in the first half, the Croats conceded twice, failing to return to the game, conceding another goal in the second half of the meeting (0-3).
The Moroccan national team was in a very strong group along with Croatia, Belgium and Canada, where it could hardly be considered a favorite.
However, after a draw with Croatia (0-0), the team believed in themselves and sensationally defeated Belgium (2-0), then Canada (2-1), finishing first.
In the 1/8 finals, the Moroccan team held back the onslaught of Spain and brought the match to a penalty shootout, where the Spaniards did not leave a chance.
With Portugal, the Moroccans did not bring things to extra-times, beating them with a score of (1-0).
However, it did not work out to create another sensation in the semi-finals – France realized their chances and played excellently in defense (0-2).
Players to watch
Ivan Perisic started every game for Croatia during the World Cup and is their main contributor, having a hand in half of their goals.
Still full of energy, Morocco striker Youssef En-Nesyri is looking to make another big impact in the tournament after his two game-winning goals.
