Preview
After four rounds, Spain top the second table of League A with 8 points. The fight against Portugal for the playoffs is gaining momentum.
Spain boss Luis Enrique will be more than happy with his team’s form ahead of November’s World Cup.
Almost 12 months have passed since their last defeat, and five of the six victories in that time also came with a clean sheet.
Yet despite all this, Enrique still faced scrutiny from the Spanish media, largely due to his decision to drop a number of key stars from his latest squad, including PSG’s Sergio Ramos, Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara and Ansu. Faty from Barcelona.
There must be confidence that the national team can also achieve this, because Spain are not only in good shape, but also boast a fairly dominant result in head-to-head matches against their opponents, and their last defeat was in 2010.
So far it hasn’t been a very good calendar year for Switzerland, which would certainly like to get a couple of positive results before going to Qatar.
So far, they have only managed one win in 2022, which is not surprising given that they have not managed to score more than one goal in any of those matches.
However, last time that only win came in a Nations League match against Portugal, although they are still bottom of the group one point behind the Czech Republic and relegation to League B is a real concern.
Away form has played a big role in Switzerland’s poor form of late, with the last away win coming in October 2021.
Manager Murat Yakin will be especially disappointed with his team’s results during this time, given that in three of those matches they scored before half-time – scoring the first goal twice.

His rival Xherdan Shaqiri could become Switzerland’s third-highest scorer if he plays here and against the Czech Republic next week – he has scored three goals in his last three matches for the club.

Head to Head
Spain have an excellent record against Switzerland and have won 18 of the 24 matches played between the two teams. Switzerland have only won once against Spain and will have to improve their record in this match.
The previous meeting of the two teams took place in June of this year and ended with the victory of Spain with a score of (1:0).
